Black and White Raw Shooting

I have always been very intrigued by black and white photography but I’ve been having trouble pre-visualizing a scene and understanding how certain colors will render as different ‘zones’. I’m sure this will come with time and study, one thing that I feel really helps me personally is seeing the image as black and white on the lcd; (edit: you do not need to turn on jpegs) just set your picture controls to monochrome. Now your lcd will display the jpg as black and white but your raw files will be in color and you can convert in your favorite application (mine is nik silver efex pro)

Here is my first attempt with this new method

Welcome!

I have finally broke down and started my photography blog! Here I’ll be posting random photography tips and tricks related to nature photography, gear talk (mainly Nikon since that’s what I use) software tricks (photoshop, lightroom, nik, enfuse) and about my trips to amazing locations. Please comment if you have any questions or suggestions.
